Who it is for

For welders who spend the whole shift in welding fumes and want to breathe filtered air. The manufacturer lists MIG/MAG, TIG with inverters (the ADF reacts to arcs from 5 A), MMA with coated electrodes and AC/DC pulse welding. The belt-mounted unit pushes filtered air through the hose into the helmet, and the positive pressure under the shell keeps contaminated air out of the breathing zone.

Which blower unit it works with

The helmet is on the lists of certified helmets in the manuals of all three systems, so you can change the system without changing the helmet. Units, kits and the regulator are listed in the Powered air systems category.

What makes the Guardian 62 Air different

  • Guardian 62 ADF: light state shade 4, two dark ranges 5-9 and 9-13, 4 arc sensors.
  • 62 x 98 mm viewing area, True Blue Color technology, optical class 1/1/1/2 to EN 379.
  • Grind mode via a switch on the outside of the shell (3 positions: shade 9-13, shade 5-9, grinding), so you go from welding to grinding without changing helmets.
  • Air flows in two main streams to the breathing zone, and an adjustable outlet directs part of it to your forehead.
  • Headgear with top strap, longitudinal and angular adjustment, tightened with the knob at the rear.
  • The ADF runs on a replaceable CR2450 battery and switches itself off after 15 minutes without use.

In the box

  • Guardian 62 Air helmet with Guardian 62 ADF and adjustable air outlets

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the Guardian 62 Air without a blower unit?

No. The helmet has a face seal, and the Guardian Air and Evolution Air manuals warn that with the blower switched off carbon dioxide builds up quickly under the helmet and oxygen runs low. Always work with the unit running or with Supplied Air connected.

How does it differ from the Guardian 62 and the Guardian 62 Air Kit?

The Böhler Welding Guardian 62 auto-darkening welding helmet has the same ADF and 62 x 98 mm viewing area but no face seal, air duct connector or air outlets, so it cannot be connected to an air supply. The Böhler Welding Guardian 62 Air Kit, welding helmet with Evolution Air PAPR is this helmet together with Evolution Air (up to 14 h, 180 to 240 l/min) in a Böhler bag, ready for work. If you alternate between welding and grinding, look at the Böhler Welding Guardian 62F Air flip-up welding helmet for PAPR powered air systems with a flip-up filter.

Can I wear it with a beard?

A beard or long hair along the seal line lowers the protection factor of the whole system because the face seal no longer fits tightly. The PAPR manuals require the seal to fit closely around your face and chin.

Is it suitable for welding inside a tank or a pipe?

No. The blower unit manuals exclude confined and unventilated spaces such as tanks, pipes and channels. A helmet with this ADF is not suitable for laser welding either.

How often should I change the filter in the unit?

Replace the main P R SL filter after 2 weeks or 90 hours of use at the latest, whichever period is longer, and the pre-filter when the unit raises an alarm.
