Who it is for
For welders who mostly work at shades 9-13 and want to breathe filtered air through the whole shift. The manual lists MIG/MAG, TIG with inverters, MMA, argon and helium shielded welding and AC/DC pulse welding. The belt-mounted unit pushes filtered air into the helmet, and the positive pressure under the shell keeps fumes out of the breathing zone.
Which blower unit it works with
- Böhler Welding Guardian Air PAPR blower unit, complete kit with filter: class TH3 to EN 12941, airflow 180 to 220 l/min in 6 levels, up to 8 h on the 5200 mAh battery, 870 g with filter and battery. This unit is the basis of Böhler Welding Guardian 50M Air Kit, welding helmet with Guardian Air PAPR.
- Böhler Welding Evolution Air PAPR blower unit, complete kit with filters: with this helmet class TH3 P R SL, with A1B1E1 gas filters class TH2 ABE1 P R SL; 180 to 240 l/min, up to 14 h on the 7800 mAh battery.
- Böhler Welding Supplied Air compressed air regulator for air-fed helmets, complete kit: compressed air supply at 3 to 8 bar, class 4A to EN 14594:2018, 180 to 220 l/min in 7 levels.
The Guardian 50M Air is on the lists of certified helmets in the Guardian Air, Evolution Air and Supplied Air manuals, so you can change the system without changing the helmet. Other units are listed in the Powered air systems category.
Which version to choose
The Böhler Welding Guardian 50 auto-darkening welding helmet has the same shade range 9-13 and 50 x 100 mm viewing area but no face seal or air duct connector: the extra cost of the Air version buys air readiness. The Böhler Welding Guardian 50M Air Kit, welding helmet with Guardian Air PAPR is this helmet with the Guardian Air unit (up to 8 h, 870 g) in a Böhler bag, a complete set ready for work.

Frequently asked questions
Does the Guardian 50M Air offer shades 5-9?
No, the Guardian 50 ADF has one dark range, 9-13, plus grind mode. If you also need shades 5-9, choose the Böhler Welding Guardian 50FM Air flip-up welding helmet for PAPR powered air systems with a flip-up filter or the Böhler Welding Guardian 62 Air welding helmet for PAPR powered air systems with a 62 x 98 mm viewing area.
Can I work in it without the air supply?
No. The Guardian Air and Evolution Air manuals warn that with the unit switched off carbon dioxide builds up quickly under a sealed helmet and oxygen drops. Use it only with a running unit or with Supplied Air.
Which head sizes does the system fit?
The Guardian Air manual states that the helmets certified with it cover head circumferences from 535 to 600 mm. You adjust the headgear with the rear knob and the top strap.
How long does Guardian Air run on one charge?
Up to 8 h at minimum airflow with a new filter and a fully charged 5200 mAh battery, and 6 h at maximum airflow according to the manual. Charging takes 4 to 6 h.
Is it suitable for laser welding?
No. The Guardian 50M Air manual excludes laser welding. For laser work the manufacturer offers the Laser Guard Air with protection to EN 207.
